It seems like all anyone is talking about now is the huge influx in denim, and with this rise in denim styles and looks, are we going to see the return of the denim mini? Earlier this year Rihanna was spotted wearing one that was not exactly her most bangin look (the blue tone, no print or rips, with frayed ends...can you hear my cringing?) and just a few weeks ago, Kendall Jenner was wearing one that was a bit more bearable on the eye (except maybe not from behind, that high hemline!). But is this really a super underground trend that we can see coming up in the fall with boots and leggings?
My forecast? No. There's already so much going on with denim, denim on denim, all colors of denim, flared, ripped, boot cut, skinny denim-- there's no room for anything else. I also think it's too soon for the denim mini to return, last I remember wearing one it was from American Eagle and I had a purple streak in my hair to commemorate Avril Lavigne. I believe I paired it with a poncho and on off days I'd opt for gaucho pants, sigh, I'm not ready for 2008 to come back just yet.
Instead of the denim mini, I could see a small spike in the trend of denim skirts. There's already a trend of exuding class and luxury, and I think this much better corresponds with the fall trends than a mini. Overall though I do think it will be just a small spike, you'll see a lot of people wearing it for a couple of months then it will be gone with the cold of winter. Had this idea of a trend started last spring, maybe it would be hot, but I have a feeling by next spring we'll all be sick of this denim craze. So if you have a long denim skirt, go for it I say, but don't bother going out and buying one.
I know it has been forever since I've been on this blog, but college has been a lot and stressful, but I am going to London and Paris this summer to study fashion and I've been obsessed with Parisian style. I've posted some of my favorites and iconic pieces to look tres chic no matter where you are. Many of these pieces are also perfect for early spring.
Neutrals - The Parisians love their neutrals, and while a splash of color here and there really pops, you will find most stick to black, white and nude tones.
Strappy heels - Not so strappy that you look like Snooki going to the club, but some thin straps with a monotone heel will look classy and can be worn day or night by French standards.
Trench coats - Classic for any season really, these have a cute springy look, especially with pastels or a skirt.
Full tulle skirts - These are by far my favorite pick of all. They're girly and chic and reminiscent of Holly Golightly. Somehow they capture elegance and are fun too.
Do:
Wear a pop of color with neutrals
Incorporate one pattern or texture (such as lace or stripes)
I'm sorry it has been so long (about 3 months...whoops!) since my last blog post, I've been moving into college for my first year and it's been a weird transition. I'm hopefully doing a couple classes on fashion abroad this summer so I figured I should shake off the dust and start doing some posts again.
Fall is almost over, and the chill of winter is really about to set in soon. Thanksgiving is in just a few weeks and it's at this awkward stage where it's weird to pull out all of the winter clothes and too soon to put away the fall clothes. Here I'll try to help mesh the two for an easier, and warmer, transition.
Switch out a light scarf for a warm one - I especially like the infinity scarves, and wool or thick cotton will keep the wind from creeping into your jacket.
Invest in a warm coat - Coats get expensive very fast, but it's a spot to splurge. Try to find something down if you want to wear it through the winter, or wool if it's just for fall.
Neutrals are your friend - Although it can be tempting to want to jump right into rich emeralds, and cranberry reds for the holiday season, wait until halfway though December. Keep things interesting with cool textures or light prints.
Ok, so usually my "pick" posts are about a certain type of clothing or style, but now that spring has sprung and I'm into summer, green has been all over and I love it! Usually green isn't my sort of color, but something about the preppy styles and florals of this time of year have gotten me more into it. Here are some of my favorite shades of green this season, as well as some ideas of how I would wear them.
Hunter green-Usually more of a winter color, I've found I really like this color for accent pieces or accessories, so I can incorporate the green without looking out of season.
Pastel/pale green-Another very summery color that has been seen among girly and bohemian styles a lot recently. Try to avoid bright pastels (is that an oxymoron?), neon green is still tacky!
Selena Gomez has to be one of my top girl crushes. Beautiful and talented with singing and acting her style is amazing as well. She has a lot of variation in her dress so it was fun to play with this week; from her bohemian to edgy and sweet to flirty.
