New York Fashion Week: What Was Trending

September 18, 2015

New York Fashion week is always a busy and fun time, there's so many designers, from the classics like DVF and Alexander Wang to newer and younger ones like Creatures of the Wind. With the wide range of designs it's hard to narrow it down to "one look" we will see everywhere in Spring/Summer 2016, but here are the top trends that you should look for and can incorporate into your outfits.

Crisp Whites - There was a lot of completely white outfits on the runway, Calvin Klein's show was almost entirely white. White will be light, airy and a clean start to the spring.

70s Inspiration - This is another trend that was everywhere on the runway, the boxy silhouette, long pants and bright patterns of the 70s are back! I think the bohemian trend is finally evolving it's way out so enjoy this while we can next spring.

Long hems - Going along with the long, lean, 70s look, long hems were everywhere, hardly a mini skirt or shorts were seen on the runway (I told you the denim mini wouldn't make it!). Everything seems to hit just below the knee or all the way to the ankle.

Plaids and gingham - Plaids have not been in for quite some time, so I'll be interested to see how this trend plays out. It seems like designers are really putting a fresh spin on the classic and I think with the light colors, it's fresh and interesting for spring.

90s silhouette - Along with the 70s style inspiration, there was a lot of the long, drapey, 90s silhouette. Along with plaid and denim on denim, there has certainly been a huge 90s revival in recent years, and I think we will continue to see more and more of it.

Oversized shape - If models weren't wearing the long and lean 90s silhouette, they were wearing something boxy and oversized on top or bottom. From wide legged pants to a line tops, these fresh and modern looks will be a hit in spring and summer.
